TL;DR: Sparks are credits used only for bounties. You spend them to apply to bounties and earn them by completing bounty work. Hackathons, grants, and campaigns do not use Spark.

What you’ll learn

What Spark is for

Spark helps prevent spam and low-quality applications on bounties. You spend Sparks when you:
  • Apply to bounties (often 1 Spark per application)
The exact cost is shown before you confirm (e.g., “This application will use 1 Spark”).
Spark is not used for hackathons, grants, or crowdfunding campaigns. Those use XLM or other payment methods; check the app for details.

Earning Sparks

You can earn Sparks by:
  • Completing bounties and getting approved
  • Other rewards or promotions (see in-app or announcements)
If a bounty costs Sparks to apply, make sure you have enough before you submit. Failed or rejected applications may or may not refund the Spark depending on the rules for that bounty.

Spending Sparks

  • Applying to bounties: Many bounties require 1 Spark per application. You spend it when you click submit; if you’re not selected, your Spark may be returned when the bounty is resolved (check the bounty rules).
Always check the confirmation screen for the exact cost.
