# Backing campaigns Source: https://docs.boundlessfi.xyz/backers/back-a-project How to back a crowdfunding campaign on Boundless. Backing a campaign means contributing USDC (or other supported assets) to a creator’s funding goal. Your funds are held in [on-chain escrow](/concepts/escrow-and-human-review) and released according to the campaign’s [milestone structure](/backers/milestones-and-releases) when the creator delivers and (if applicable) [community validation](/backers/vote-on-campaigns) passes. ## Before you back * [Set up your wallet](/concepts/wallet-and-balance) with USDC to contribute. * Read the campaign description, goal, and milestone structure so you know how and when funds are released. ## Steps Browse campaigns and pick one you want to support. Enter the amount you want to back and confirm the transaction. Funds move from your wallet into the campaign’s escrow. Follow milestone updates. If the campaign uses community validation, you may be able to vote on milestone releases. ## Tips * Back only what you can afford to commit. Refunds depend on the campaign’s rules (e.g., goal not met, cancellation). * Check the creator’s [reputation](/concepts/reputation) and campaign history when available. ## Related * [Crowdfunding overview](/backers/overview) * [Creating campaigns](/backers/create-a-campaign) (for creators) * [Milestone structure](/backers/milestones-and-releases) # Creating campaigns Source: https://docs.boundlessfi.xyz/backers/create-a-campaign How to create a crowdfunding campaign on Boundless. You create a campaign by defining the project, funding goal, and optionally a [milestone structure](/backers/milestones-and-releases) and [community validation](/backers/vote-on-campaigns) steps. ## Before you start * [Set up your wallet](/concepts/wallet-and-balance). * Have a clear project description, goal amount, and (if applicable) milestones. ## Steps Write the title, description, and funding goal. Explain what you’re building and how funds will be used. Set the target amount (in USDC or supported asset) and the campaign end date. Define [milestone structure](/backers/milestones-and-releases): what you’ll deliver and when funds release. If the program supports it, configure [community validation](/backers/vote-on-campaigns) (e.g., backer votes, checks). Publish the campaign. Backers can then [back the campaign](/backers/back-a-project). Funds are held in escrow and released per your milestone structure when approved. ## Related * [Crowdfunding overview](/backers/overview) * [Community validation](/backers/vote-on-campaigns) * [Milestone structure](/backers/milestones-and-releases) # Discover projects Source: https://docs.boundlessfi.xyz/backers/discover-projects Browse crowdfunding projects on Boundless and find ones to back. > **TL;DR:** Browse live crowdfunding projects, see how close each is to its goal and where it is in its journey, and open one to vote or back it. ## What you'll learn * Where to find projects * How to read a project card * What the different project states mean *** ## Find a project Open **Crowdfunding** to see live projects, or use [Discover](/contributors/find-opportunities) to browse projects alongside everything else on Boundless. Crowdfunding items are called **projects** (not opportunities), because you back them rather than compete for them. ## Reading a project Each project shows: * **Funding progress**: how much has been raised toward the goal. * **Milestones**: the stages the creator will deliver, and how funds release across them. * **Who's behind it**: the creator, and the delegated reviewer who validates milestones. ## Project states A project moves through a few stages, and what you can do depends on where it is: * **Voting**: the community decides whether the project should launch. Any signed-in user can [vote](/backers/vote-on-campaigns). * **Funding**: the vote passed and the project is live; you can [back it](/backers/back-a-project). * **In delivery**: the creator is shipping milestones; funds release as each is approved. * **Completed**: all milestones delivered. ## Next steps * [Back a project](/backers/back-a-project) * [Vote on campaigns](/backers/vote-on-campaigns) * [Milestones and releases](/backers/milestones-and-releases) # Milestones and releases Source: https://docs.boundlessfi.xyz/backers/milestones-and-releases How crowdfunding milestones release funds on Boundless, and how each release amount is calculated. Campaign milestones define what the creator will deliver, and funds are released from escrow one milestone at a time. This reduces risk for backers and keeps creators accountable. ## How it works 1. **Creator defines milestones** When [creating a campaign](/backers/create-a-campaign), the creator breaks the work into milestones (e.g., "Alpha release," "Documentation," "Mainnet launch"). 2. **Backers fund the campaign** Contributions go into escrow. See [Back a project](/backers/back-a-project). 3. **Creator delivers** For each milestone, the creator submits evidence (e.g., a link, demo, or report). 4. **Reviewer approves** A [delegated reviewer](/backers/vote-on-campaigns) checks the evidence and approves the milestone. 5. **Release** The creator claims the milestone and that share of the funds is released. ## How each release is calculated Crowdfunding uses **dynamic** release amounts. Each time a milestone is claimed, the amount released is the **funds remaining in escrow divided by the milestones remaining**. The last milestone takes whatever is left, so nothing is stranded. Remaining escrow divided by remaining milestones gives each release amount For example, with 4,200 USDC raised across 3 milestones, the first claim releases 4,200 ÷ 3 = 1,400 USDC. ## For creators * Define clear, verifiable milestones so backers and validators can approve releases without ambiguity. * Deliver on time to maintain trust and unlock funds. ## For backers * Review the milestone structure before backing so you know when and how funds are released. ## Related * [Crowdfunding overview](/backers/overview) * [Creating campaigns](/backers/create-a-campaign) * [Community validation](/backers/vote-on-campaigns) # Crowdfunding overview Source: https://docs.boundlessfi.xyz/backers/overview Launch or back community-funded projects on Boundless. When the creator completes a milestone and it's approved, that portion of the funds is **released** to the creator. If milestones aren't met, backers are protected by the escrow rules. Partner contributions are refunded first, then the remaining balance is returned proportionally. The rules are enforced by the escrow contract, not by manual review. ## What you'll learn * When refunds happen * How the refund amount is worked out * What pausing a project means for your contribution *** ## When refunds happen Your contribution goes into [on-chain escrow](/concepts/escrow-and-human-review) and is released to the creator milestone by milestone as work is approved. If a project is cancelled before all milestones are delivered, whatever is **still in escrow** is refunded. Funds already released for approved milestones are not clawed back. ## How refunds are calculated Refunds follow a fixed priority that the contract enforces: 1. **Partner contributions** are refunded first. 2. The **remaining balance** is returned proportionally (pro rata) to backers, based on what's left in escrow. Refund priority: partner contributions first, then pro-rata backer residual Because this runs on-chain, there's no manual reconciliation and no one deciding case by case, the same rules apply to every project. ## If a project is paused An admin can pause a live project while looking into a concern. While it's paused, contributions and milestone releases are blocked, but the escrow balance is untouched. The project can then be unpaused or cancelled. If it's cancelled, the refund rules above apply. ## Next steps * [Milestones and releases](/backers/milestones-and-releases) * [Escrow and human review](/concepts/escrow-and-human-review) * [Handle disputes](/help/disputes-and-moderation) # Vote on campaigns Source: https://docs.boundlessfi.xyz/backers/vote-on-campaigns How the community votes a crowdfunding campaign to launch on Boundless, and who validates milestones. > **TL;DR:** Before a campaign can go live, the community votes on whether it should launch. Any signed-in user gets one vote. If enough people vote and enough are in favor, the campaign launches and can start raising funds. ## The launch vote After a campaign is submitted and reviewed, it enters a voting stage. This is the community's chance to decide whether it deserves to launch: * **Any signed-in Boundless user** can cast one vote, up or down, per campaign. * The vote must reach a **quorum** (a minimum number of votes) before the result counts. * Once quorum is met, the campaign passes if it clears the **threshold**: the share of votes in favor. Typical defaults are a quorum of **10 votes** and a **60%** in-favor threshold, checked periodically. If the campaign passes, it launches on-chain and funding opens; if not, it doesn't go live. A campaign moves from submitted through a community vote to launching once it passes ## Who validates milestones Voting decides whether a campaign *launches*. Once it's live, each **milestone** is checked by a **delegated reviewer**: a trusted community member assigned to the campaign, not by an open vote. See [Milestones and releases](/backers/milestones-and-releases). ## For creators * When [creating campaigns](/backers/create-a-campaign), you can enable community validation and set the rules (who votes, threshold, etc.). * Use it to build trust: backers see that releases are gated on community approval. ## For backers * You may be asked to vote or signal on milestone releases or other campaign decisions. Your participation helps keep campaigns accountable. ## Related * [Crowdfunding overview](/backers/overview) * [Creating campaigns](/backers/create-a-campaign) * [Milestone structure](/backers/milestones-and-releases) # Credits Source: https://docs.boundlessfi.xyz/concepts/credits What Credits are on Boundless, how you earn and spend them, and how monthly refills and tiers work. > **TL;DR:** Credits are a platform currency used **only for bounties**. You spend Credits **only on bounties**: to apply to a bounty that requires an application, and to submit your work. The base cost is **1 Credit**, though an organizer can set a higher cost on their own bounty. The cost is always shown before you confirm. Credits are not used for hackathons, grants, or crowdfunding. Those are funded and paid in USDC. *** ## How you get Credits * **Welcome grant:** new users start with **6 Credits**, so you can begin right away. * **Monthly refill:** on the **1st of each month**, your balance resets to your tier's refill amount. A refill is a reset, not a top-up, it does not stack on Credits you already hold. * **Earn tasks:** a few one-time actions add Credits to your balance. You can hold at most **12 Credits** at any time. ### Earn extra Credits (one-time) | Task | Credits | | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------- | | Complete your profile (name, bio, and at least one skill) | +2 | | Connect your GitHub account | +3 | | Complete your first opportunity (a won bounty or hackathon, or an approved grant) | +5 | Earned Credits still can't push you past the cap of 12. *** ## Tiers and monthly refills Your tier is set by your [reputation](/concepts/reputation) score, and your tier sets how many Credits you refill to each month. | Tier | Reputation needed | Monthly refill | | -------- | ----------------- | -------------- | | Bronze | 0+ | 3 | | Silver | 100+ | 5 | | Gold | 400+ | 8 | | Platinum | 1,000+ | 12 | These amounts are the current policy and may be tuned over time. A person then reviews the work, an organizer, a panel, a reviewer, or a community vote, and only then does the escrow contract release the payout. On-chain mechanics meet human review. ## What you'll learn * What escrow is and why Boundless uses it * How **fund → work → review → settle** works * What this means for you as a contributor, backer, or organizer * Where to go if something goes wrong *** ## What is escrow? Escrow is a secure holding place for money. On Boundless, escrow runs on **Boundless's own Soroban smart contracts on the Stellar network**: no single person or company can quietly move the funds. Only the actions defined in the contract (release on award, refund on cancel, partner top-up) can touch the balance. The flow is the same across every pillar: 1. **Fund**: the payer (organizer, backer, or grant program) locks funds in USDC into escrow when the program is published. 2. **Work**: you apply, submit, or ship your work. 3. **Review**: a human decides the outcome: the organizer picks a winner, a panel scores submissions, a reviewer approves a milestone, or the community votes. 4. **Settle**: once the review passes, the contract releases the payout to your wallet, usually within about a minute. Locked in escrow, then human review, then released to wallet in USDC You don't have to trust the other party to pay, and they don't have to pay before the work is done. The contract enforces what was agreed; the people decide what gets funded. *** ## How it works in each pillar **Bounty** The organizer locks the reward. You submit work. The organizer (or a panel) selects the winner. Escrow sends the reward to your wallet. **Hackathon** Prize funds are locked when the event is published. Judges score submissions. When the organizer selects winners, escrow pays out to each winner at once. **Grant** The grant program locks the budget. You deliver milestone 1; the program manager approves it. Escrow releases that milestone's amount to you. This repeats for each milestone. **Crowdfunding** Backers' contributions go into escrow. You (the creator) complete a milestone and submit proof. A delegated reviewer approves it, and that portion of the funds is released to you. *** ## Why a human review step? On-chain escrow guarantees the money is real and the payout is automatic once conditions are met. But deciding whether work is actually good, whether a submission wins, whether a milestone is complete, is a judgment call. Boundless keeps a person in that seat: * The contract enforces **what was decided** (who gets paid, how much, when). * People decide **what counts** (which work wins, which milestone is done). That's the balance: no "hope they pay," and no bot deciding whether your work is good enough. *** ## What if something goes wrong? If you disagree with a rejection or an outcome, you can raise a dispute and the evidence is reviewed. See [Disputes and moderation](/help/disputes-and-moderation). *** ## Next steps * [How Boundless works](/start-here/how-boundless-works) * [Tokens and wallets](/reference/tokens-and-wallets) * [Disputes and moderation](/help/disputes-and-moderation) *** ## Need help? * **Platform:** [Boundless](https://www.boundlessfi.xyz) * [Discord](https://discord.gg/cNabHsV7PN) · [Support](mailto:support@boundlessfi.xyz) # Reputation system Source: https://docs.boundlessfi.xyz/concepts/reputation How your on-chain reputation is earned and used across bounties, grants, hackathons, and crowdfunding. > **TL;DR:** Your reputation on Boundless is built from completed work, successful deliveries, and good outcomes. Tiers are based on your reputation score: | Tier | Score range | What it signals | | --------------- | ----------- | --------------------------------------------------------- | | **Newcomer** | 0–499 | You're new or have limited history. | | **Contributor** | 500–1,999 | You've completed work and built a track record. | | **Established** | 2,000–4,999 | Strong history; eligible for more valuable opportunities. | | **Expert** | 5,000–9,999 | High trust; often preferred for large or sensitive work. | | **Legend** | 10,000+ | Top tier; maximum visibility and opportunity. | Your tier can unlock access to higher-value bounties, grant programs, and backer trust on campaigns. These reputation tiers (shown on your profile and the leaderboard) are separate from **Credit tiers** (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum), which only set your monthly [Credits](/concepts/credits) refill. Both read from your reputation score, but they use different thresholds. *** ## How it's used **As a contributor or creator:**\ Higher reputation can mean more applications accepted, better placement in hackathons, and more backers on your campaigns. **As a funder or backer:**\ You can use someone's reputation (and tier) to decide who to hire, fund, or back. Reputation is tied to your account and is visible where the product shows it (e.g., profile, leaderboard). *** ## How to build reputation 1. **Complete small bounties** Deliver quality work and get approved. 2. **Deliver grant milestones** Hit deadlines and pass reviews. 3. **Participate in hackathons** Submit strong work; complete post-event milestones when available. 4. **Deliver on campaigns** If you run a crowdfunding campaign, ship your milestones. 5. **Avoid disputes and policy issues** Resolve problems constructively; don't abandon work. You're chosen up front, you deliver, and you're paid when your work is approved. | | **Competition** | Several contributors work in parallel and the best submission wins. A competition can pay more than one place ("multiple winners"). | ## How the two combine Either entry type can pair with either selection, which gives a range of modes. For example: * **Open, single claim:** grab a clear task and get to work, no application. * **Application (light) competition:** send a short application, get shortlisted, then compete on your finished work. * **Application (full), single claim:** submit a full proposal, and the strongest proposal is chosen to do the work. Some bounties require you to apply first, and taking part costs [Credits](/contributors/get-paid/credits). ## What you'll learn * The difference between applying and submitting * What a submission form asks for * When your submission is visible, and what happens after the deadline *** ## Apply first, or submit directly? It depends on the bounty's mode: * **Open bounties** let you submit your work directly. * **Vetted bounties** ask you to [apply](/contributors/bounties/apply) first, with a short application or a fuller proposal, and you submit once you're approved. The bounty page tells you which applies before you start. ## Filling out the submission form Each bounty defines its own requirements, so the form is tailored to that bounty. You might be asked for a link, a file, a repository, a demo, or a written summary. Submitting to a bounty costs [Credits](/contributors/get-paid/credits), the exact cost is shown before you confirm. In a **competition** bounty, entries are compared together after the deadline, so you're judged on your finished work. See [How winners are chosen and paid](/contributors/bounties/how-winners-are-paid). ## Before the deadline * Submit early; late entries aren't accepted once the deadline passes. * Deliver exactly what the bounty asks for, missing requirements are the most common reason work is passed over. * You can update your submission until the deadline unless the bounty says otherwise. ## After you submit The organizer (or a panel) reviews the entries and selects the winner or winners. When you're selected, escrow releases your reward in USDC. The base cost is **1 Credit**, though an organizer can set a higher cost on their own bounty. The exact cost is always shown before you confirm. Hackathons, grants, and crowdfunding don't use Credits. ## Your balance and monthly refill * You can hold at most **12 Credits**. * New users get a **6-Credit welcome grant** to start. * On the **1st of each month**, your balance resets to your tier's refill amount. This is a reset, not a top-up, it doesn't stack on Credits you already have. Your Credits page shows the next refill date. | Tier | Reputation needed | Monthly refill | | -------- | ----------------- | -------------- | | Bronze | 0+ | 3 | | Silver | 100+ | 5 | | Gold | 400+ | 8 | | Platinum | 1,000+ | 12 | Your tier is set by your [reputation](/concepts/reputation) score, so building reputation raises how many Credits you get each month. ## Earn extra Credits These one-time tasks add Credits to your balance (still capped at 12): | Task | Credits | | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------- | | Complete your profile (name, bio, and at least one skill) | +2 | | Connect your GitHub account | +3 | | Complete your first opportunity (a won bounty or hackathon, or an approved grant) | +5 | Running low? To withdraw to an external Stellar wallet, complete your KYC via Didit, set up a trustline for USDC on your external wallet, and request a withdrawal. ## What you'll learn * How to complete KYC verification * How to prepare your external Stellar wallet * How to request a withdrawal from Boundless *** ## When are funds available? After a hackathon ends or a bounty or grant milestone is completed and evaluated, your earnings are automatically added to your Boundless managed balance, payable in **USDC** on the Stellar network. This guide walks you through the process of withdrawing your rewards from your Boundless balance to an external Stellar wallet. *** ## Prerequisites Before you can withdraw your funds, you must meet the following requirements: 1. **Complete KYC Verification:** Withdrawals require identity verification for regulatory compliance. Navigate to your settings and complete the identity verification process via [Didit](https://didit.me/). You cannot withdraw any funds until your KYC status is approved. 2. **Have a Stellar Wallet:** You'll need an external Stellar wallet that supports USDC. Popular options include [Freighter](https://www.freighter.app/), [LOBSTR](https://lobstr.co/), or any other wallet compatible with the Stellar network. You can also withdraw to a centralized exchange that supports **USDC deposits specifically on the Stellar network**. 3. **Activate the wallet and enable the USDC Trustline:** * **Activation:** Your external wallet must hold a small minimum balance of **XLM** (Stellar Lumens) to be active. * **Trustline:** You must explicitly enable the "USDC" asset for your wallet (this is called "setting a trustline"). Please ensure you enable the official USDC asset issued by Circle, and not any similarly named assets from other issuers. If you are withdrawing directly to an exchange that supports USDC on Stellar, their wallet usually already holds USDC and the trustline, so you don't need to set this manually. However, always double-check your exchange's specific deposit instructions. If your goal is to end up with local currency in your bank account, see [Converting USDC to local currency](/reference/converting-usdc). *** ## The Withdrawal Process Log in to [Boundless](https://www.boundlessfi.xyz) and navigate to your wallet dashboard to view your current USDC balance. Click the withdraw button and enter your external Stellar wallet address (starts with `G`). Review the details on the confirmation screen carefully. Ensure your destination address is correct and that it supports USDC on the Stellar network. Acknowledge the terms and submit your withdrawal request. Boundless is not responsible for funds lost due to incorrect addresses, incompatible wallets, or exchange policies (such as minimum deposit limits). By requesting a withdrawal, you acknowledge that you have verified the destination details. **Note on memos:** Many exchanges use one shared deposit address for every customer and rely on a memo to tell whose deposit is whose. Boundless supports memos. When you enter a destination address, we check it and tell you if a memo is required, and if it is, you cannot submit the withdrawal without one. Always use the exact memo your exchange gives you. *** ## Troubleshooting ### My transaction failed or didn't arrive * **Check Minimums:** If withdrawing to an exchange, did the transaction meet their minimum deposit requirement? * **Check Address:** Verify your destination wallet address is correct. * **Check Trustline:** Ensure your external wallet has the USDC trustline enabled. * **Check USDC Balance:** Make sure your external wallet is funded with enough USDC to remain active. ### I sent to the wrong address Blockchain transactions cannot be reversed. Please double-check your destination address before confirming any withdrawal. If your transaction is still pending, contact support immediately to see if it can be canceled. ### Why do I need to verify my identity (KYC)? KYC (Know Your Customer) verification via Didit is required for regulatory compliance. We cannot process any withdrawals without completed identity verification. *** ## Next Steps * [Complete KYC verification](/start-here/verify-your-identity) * [Convert USDC to fiat](/reference/converting-usdc) ## Need Help? Grant applications on Boundless are submitted to a [grant program](/organizers/run-a-grant-program). Each program defines its eligibility, focus areas, and review criteria. You can browse grants on Boundless today. The self-serve application screens are still rolling out, so for some programs applications are handled by the organizer (for example, through a program link). The steps below describe how it works. ## Before you apply * [Set up your account and balance](/concepts/wallet-and-balance). * Read the program's scope, [grant types](/contributors/grants/grant-types), and requirements. * Optional: [Build your reputation](/contributors/get-paid/build-your-reputation). ## Steps Browse [grant programs](/organizers/run-a-grant-program) and pick one that matches your project. Write your project description and goals, and break the work into the milestones you'll deliver, each with a timeline. Add any requested attachments or links. Submit your application before the deadline. You may need to verify your identity depending on the program. The program manager reviews applications and selects winners. If you're accepted, you deliver your milestones one at a time. See [Deliver milestones](/contributors/grants/deliver-milestones). ## Tips * Align your milestones with the program's [grant type](/contributors/grants/grant-types), and make each one clear and verifiable. * Answer all required fields and follow any word limits or format rules. ## Related * [Grants overview](/contributors/grants/overview) * [Grant types](/contributors/grants/grant-types) * [Deliver milestones](/contributors/grants/deliver-milestones) # Deliver milestones Source: https://docs.boundlessfi.xyz/contributors/grants/deliver-milestones How to deliver grant milestones on Boundless, who approves them, and how each payout is released. For a grant, you deliver the work one milestone at a time. You submit evidence for each milestone, and once it's approved the matching payout is released from escrow. ## Flow Do the work described in the milestone (for example, a deliverable, report, or demo). Submit your deliverable (a link, file, or the form the program asks for). The program manager or a designated reviewer checks your submission against the milestone criteria. This review happens off-chain. Once your milestone is approved, the organization signs the on-chain claim and the milestone's share is released from escrow to your wallet, usually within about a minute. Each milestone's amount is set when the grant is published (the position's share of the budget, divided across its milestones). See [Grant types](/contributors/grants/grant-types). ## If a milestone is rejected If your submission doesn't meet the criteria, the milestone can be rejected. Rejections are final for that milestone, so review the milestone description carefully before you submit, and talk to your program manager about how to proceed. If you believe a rejection was unfair, see [Disputes and moderation](/help/disputes-and-moderation). ## Tips * Match your submission to the milestone description to avoid delays or rejections. * Keep your evidence clear and self-contained so a reviewer can approve it without follow-up. ## Related * [Grants overview](/contributors/grants/overview) * [Grant types](/contributors/grants/grant-types) * [Apply for a grant](/contributors/grants/apply) # Grant types Source: https://docs.boundlessfi.xyz/contributors/grants/grant-types Types of grants and funding structures on Boundless. Boundless supports different grant structures. The type determines how funds are released (e.g., in one lump sum or per milestone). ## Common types Funding is split into milestones. You complete each milestone, submit for review, and receive that portion of the grant when approved. Most common for project-based work. A single payout after the full scope is delivered and approved. Good for smaller or well-defined projects. Grants that repeat (e.g., monthly or per cohort) or that fund multiple recipients under one program. Details depend on the specific [grant program](/organizers/run-a-grant-program). ## Choosing a structure * Use **milestone-based** when the project has clear phases and you want to reduce risk for both sides. * Use **one-time** when the deliverable is small and can be reviewed once. * Program-specific types are described in each [grant program](/organizers/run-a-grant-program). ## Splitting a grant across winners When a program funds more than one recipient, the budget is split across **positions**: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and so on. Each position gets a set share, and the shares add up to 100%. Every position is then paid out one milestone at a time. Grant budget split across positions 1, 2, and 3 by percentage ## Related * [Application process](/contributors/grants/apply) * [Milestone delivery](/contributors/grants/deliver-milestones) * [Deliver milestones](/contributors/grants/deliver-milestones) # Grants overview Source: https://docs.boundlessfi.xyz/contributors/grants/overview Introduction to grants on Boundless: application-based funding released milestone by milestone. Boundless is a platform on the Stellar network for bounties, grants, hackathons, and crowdfunding. It uses on-chain escrow, reputation, and managed wallets (the platform holds your balance; passkey sign-in is planned for the future). You don't need any. Get started with the [quick start](/start-here/create-your-account) and [set up your account](/concepts/wallet-and-balance). The app guides you through the rest; Boundless manages your balance, so there's no wallet or seed phrase to set up. USDC is a US-dollar stablecoin on the Stellar network. Boundless pays you in USDC and does not convert to local currency itself. To cash out, withdraw your USDC (this requires [KYC](/start-here/verify-your-identity), powered by [Didit](https://didit.me/)) and convert it in an app that accepts USDC on Stellar and pays out where you live. See [Converting USDC to local currency](/reference/converting-usdc). Platform access and verification depend on your region. You apply to a [grant program](/organizers/run-a-grant-program); if accepted, you deliver [milestones](/contributors/grants/deliver-milestones) and receive payouts from escrow as they’re approved. Common types are milestone-based (payouts per milestone), one-time (single payout after delivery), and program-specific structures. See [Grant types](/contributors/grants/grant-types). Complete each milestone and submit for review. When the milestone is approved, that portion of the grant is released from escrow to your wallet. See [Milestone delivery](/contributors/grants/deliver-milestones). Check the feedback from the reviewer. You may be able to resubmit if the program allows. If you believe it was unfair, see [Handle disputes](/help/disputes-and-moderation). See [Deliver milestones](/contributors/grants/deliver-milestones) for tips on defining clear, verifiable milestones. # FAQ: Hackathons Source: https://docs.boundlessfi.xyz/faq/hackathons Frequently asked questions about hackathons on Boundless. A time-boxed event where participants build projects and compete for prizes. Prizes are held in escrow and released to winners. Some events have [post-event milestones](/contributors/hackathons/post-event-milestones) for extra payouts. Yes, when the event allows it. See [Form a hackathon team](/contributors/hackathons/form-a-team) and [Participating](/contributors/hackathons/join-and-submit). Organizers set up a [judging system](/contributors/hackathons/tracks-prizes-judging) with criteria and judges. Submissions are scored and ranked; top projects win according to the prize structure. Optional follow-up deliverables (e.g., mainnet deployment) that winners can complete after the hackathon to unlock additional payouts. See [Post-event milestones](/contributors/hackathons/post-event-milestones). See [Organizing](/organizers/host-a-hackathon). You’ll create the event, set prizes in escrow, configure judging, and optionally add post-event milestones. # Payments and KYC Source: https://docs.boundlessfi.xyz/faq/payments-and-kyc Common questions about getting paid, identity verification, Credits, and cashing out. All payouts settle in USDC on the Stellar network. Your balance is shown in USD. See [Tokens and wallets](/reference/tokens-and-wallets). Identity verification (KYC), powered by Didit, is required before you can withdraw funds. You can start it in **Settings → Verification**. See [Verify your identity](/start-here/verify-your-identity). Once an organizer releases funds, by selecting winners or approving a milestone, payouts usually settle within about a minute. Earnings held in escrow show as pending until the opportunity completes and funds are released. Your [wallet](/contributors/get-paid/wallet-and-withdrawals) shows what's pending, what's available, and the next expected release. Credits are used only for bounties, to apply and to submit. You get a monthly refill based on your tier and can earn more from a few one-time tasks. See [Earn and spend Credits](/contributors/get-paid/credits). Yes, in a separate app that accepts USDC on Stellar. Boundless doesn't convert to local currency itself. See [Converting USDC to local currency](/reference/converting-usdc). In effect, yes. You verify with Boundless so you can withdraw, and again with whichever app you use to convert to local currency. They're separate companies, so each runs its own checks. See [Converting USDC to local currency](/reference/converting-usdc). No. Boundless manages a wallet for you, so there's no seed phrase to set up. If you prefer self-custody, you can use an external wallet such as Freighter. See [Tokens and wallets](/reference/tokens-and-wallets). *** ## Need help? * [Discord](https://discord.gg/cNabHsV7PN) · [Support](mailto:support@boundlessfi.xyz) · [Contact us](/support/contact-us) # Handle disputes Source: https://docs.boundlessfi.xyz/help/disputes-and-moderation What to do when a dispute arises on Boundless (bounties, grants, campaigns). Disputes can arise when parties disagree about completion, quality, or eligibility (e.g., bounty submission, grant milestone, campaign delivery). This guide outlines how to handle them on Boundless. ## When a dispute can occur * **Bounties** Claimer says work is done; creator disagrees. Or multiple claimers dispute who should win. * **Grants** Applicant or grantee disagrees with a rejected application or milestone. * **Crowdfunding** Backers dispute whether a milestone was fulfilled. ## Steps When possible, resolve with the other party via the platform or supported channels. Many issues are misunderstandings. If you can’t resolve it, open a dispute from the relevant page (bounty, grant, or campaign). Provide evidence and a clear description. The other party can respond. Provide any additional evidence requested. Boundless or designated reviewers evaluate the dispute and decide. Outcomes can include releasing funds, partial release, or refund. Both parties are notified. ## Tips * Keep evidence (links, messages, deliverables) so you can support your case. * Be clear and factual in your dispute description. ## Related * [On-chain escrow explained](/concepts/escrow-and-human-review) * [Support: Contact us](/support/contact-us) for help with the process # Report a bug Source: https://docs.boundlessfi.xyz/help/report-a-bug How to report bugs or security issues to Boundless. Reporting bugs and security issues helps us improve Boundless for everyone. ## Non-security bugs * Use the in-app feedback or support flow if available. * Or [Contact us](/support/contact-us) with a clear description, steps to reproduce, and (if possible) screenshots or error messages. ## Security vulnerabilities If you believe you’ve found a security vulnerability: * **Do not** disclose it publicly before it’s addressed. * Report it privately via the channel indicated in the Boundless app or website (e.g., a dedicated security email or form). * Include steps to reproduce and impact, if you can describe them without exploiting the issue. We will acknowledge receipt and work with you on next steps. We may recognize responsible disclosure in line with our policy. ## Related * [Security & privacy](/reference/security-and-privacy) * [Contact us](/support/contact-us) # Troubleshooting Source: https://docs.boundlessfi.xyz/help/troubleshooting Fixes for the most common issues on Boundless, payouts, verification, submissions, Credits, and account access. > **TL;DR:** Quick answers to the problems people hit most. If none of these solve it, [contact support](/support/contact-us). ## My payout hasn't arrived Payouts settle in USDC after the organizer releases funds, usually within about a minute. If it's been longer: * Check that your identity is verified, withdrawals are gated by [KYC](/start-here/verify-your-identity). * Confirm the organizer has actually selected winners or approved the milestone; funds release only after that review step. * Check your [wallet](/contributors/get-paid/wallet-and-withdrawals), earnings marked *pending* are still held in escrow until the opportunity completes. ## My identity verification was declined If verification is declined, abandoned, or expired, you can try again from **Settings → Verification**. Make sure your ID is clear and valid and that your details match. See [Verify your identity](/start-here/verify-your-identity). ## I can't apply to or submit a bounty * Taking part in a bounty costs [Credits](/contributors/get-paid/credits), check your balance and the bounty's cost. * Some bounties require you to [apply](/contributors/bounties/apply) and be approved before you can submit. * Check the deadline, once it passes, submissions close. ## I'm out of Credits Credits refill on the 1st of each month based on your tier. You can also earn extra by completing your profile, connecting GitHub, or finishing your first opportunity. See [Earn and spend Credits](/contributors/get-paid/credits). ## I can't withdraw Withdrawals require an **approved** identity verification and a positive balance. If the withdraw button is disabled, complete [KYC](/start-here/verify-your-identity) first. ## I can't access my account Reset your password from the sign-in screen. Hosting a hackathon on Boundless means creating the event, setting the rules and prizes, configuring [judging](/organizers/how-judging-works), and optionally adding [post-event milestones](/contributors/hackathons/post-event-milestones). Prize funds are locked in [on-chain escrow](/concepts/escrow-and-human-review) when you publish, and released to winners when you select them. Hosting is self-serve, but some organizer screens are still rolling out. If you'd like to run an event before the full UI ships, reach out via [support@boundlessfi.xyz](mailto:support@boundlessfi.xyz). ## Before you start * [Set up your account and balance](/concepts/wallet-and-balance) and make sure you have USDC for the prize pool. * Decide your event: theme, dates, tracks, and prize structure. ## What the setup covers The creation flow walks you through the event in sections: * **Information**: name, description, and rules. * **Timeline**: registration, build, and judging dates. * **Participation**: who can join, and team rules. * **Rewards**: the prize pool, tracks, and prize tiers. * **Resources**: links and materials for participants. * **Judging**: your rubric of weighted criteria and the judges you invite. * **Collaboration**: sponsors or partners who help fund or run the event. ## How it runs When you publish, the prize pool is locked in escrow. Registration opens. Participants build and submit their projects before the submission deadline. Judges score submissions against your rubric. See [How judging works](/organizers/how-judging-works). You select the winners, and escrow releases the prizes to them, usually within about a minute. If you want follow-up work (for example, a mainnet deployment or docs), set up [post-event milestones](/contributors/hackathons/post-event-milestones) for winners to continue. ## Related * [How judging works](/organizers/how-judging-works) * [Tracks, prizes, and judging](/contributors/hackathons/tracks-prizes-judging) * [Post-event milestones](/contributors/hackathons/post-event-milestones) * [Fees](/reference/fees) # How judging works Source: https://docs.boundlessfi.xyz/organizers/how-judging-works How hackathon submissions are scored against a rubric, and what the AI judging assist does. > **TL;DR:** Judges score each submission against a weighted rubric. The scores decide the winners. An AI assist can summarize long submissions to save time, but it never scores for you, people decide. ## What you'll learn * How a judging rubric is structured * How scoring decides winners * What the AI judging assist does and doesn't do *** ## The rubric A hackathon defines a **rubric**: a set of criteria that judges score against. Each criterion carries a weight, and the weights add up to 100. This keeps scoring consistent: every judge evaluates the same things in the same proportions. Hackathons can also have **tracks** (categories such as DeFi, tooling, or consumer). Submissions enter a track, and prize tiers can be awarded within a track or overall. Weighted rubric criteria feed into judge scores, which decide winners ## Scoring Judges review each submission and score it on every criterion in the rubric. Once scoring closes, the totals rank the submissions and determine who wins each prize tier. Some hackathons set a **pass mark**: a minimum quality bar a submission must clear to win a tier, so a prize isn't awarded to weak work. ## The AI judging assist For submissions with a lot of material, an **AI judging assist** can summarize the entry per criterion so judges can review faster. It only summarizes, it never assigns a score. The judgment is always human. ## Fairness Scores and outcomes are recorded, so decisions are auditable. If a result is questioned, see [Disputes and moderation](/help/disputes-and-moderation). ## Next steps * [Score submissions](/organizers/score-submissions) * [Host a hackathon](/organizers/host-a-hackathon) * [Tracks, prizes, and judging (participant view)](/contributors/hackathons/tracks-prizes-judging) # Running programs on Boundless Source: https://docs.boundlessfi.xyz/organizers/overview How organizers post bounties, host hackathons, and run grant programs, funded by escrow, decided by people. > **TL;DR:** Organizing on Boundless is self-serve. You fund a program, contributors do the work, a human review step decides the outcome, and the escrow contract settles payouts in USDC. Some organizer screens are still rolling out. ## The shared flow Every program, bounty, hackathon, or grant, follows the same four steps: 1. **Fund**: your budget is locked in [on-chain escrow](/concepts/escrow-and-human-review) when you publish. 2. **Work**: contributors apply, submit, or ship. 3. **Review**: a human decides: you pick a winner, a panel scores submissions, a reviewer approves a milestone, or the community votes. 4. **Settle**: once review passes, the contract releases payouts, usually within about a minute. The four-step Boundless flow: Fund, Work, Review, Settle You keep control of the decisions; the contract handles the money. ## Choose a program type A paid task where the best work wins. A time-boxed event with a prize pool. Fund work milestone by milestone. ## Judging Hackathons are decided by a panel scoring submissions against a rubric. If you're inviting judges, or judging yourself, see [How judging works](/organizers/how-judging-works). Organizing is self-serve, but some of the screens are still being designed and rolled out. Where a flow isn't fully available in the app yet, this guide describes how it works so you know what to expect. If you'd like to run a program before the UI ships, reach out via [support@boundlessfi.xyz](mailto:support@boundlessfi.xyz). ## Next steps * [Post a bounty](/organizers/post-a-bounty) * [Host a hackathon](/organizers/host-a-hackathon) * [Run a grant program](/organizers/run-a-grant-program) * [Fees](/reference/fees) # Creating bounties Source: https://docs.boundlessfi.xyz/organizers/post-a-bounty How to create and fund a bounty on Boundless. You create a bounty by defining the task, reward, and mode, then locking the reward in [on-chain escrow](/concepts/escrow-and-human-review). ## Before you create * [Set up your wallet](/concepts/wallet-and-balance) with enough USDC (and [Credit](/concepts/credits) if required). * Have a clear task description and acceptance criteria. ## Steps Write the task title, description, deliverables, and acceptance criteria. Be specific so claimers know what to do. Choose a [mode](/contributors/bounties/bounty-modes): an entry type (Open, Application light, or Application full) and a selection (single claim or competition). Set the reward amount (USDC or other supported asset). This amount will be locked in escrow. Lock the reward in escrow. The bounty becomes open for claims once funded. Optionally set a deadline. Publish the bounty. ## After publishing * Claimers will submit according to the mode. * You (or a judge) review and select the winner(s); funds release from escrow to them. * If there’s a dispute, see [Handle disputes](/help/disputes-and-moderation). ## Related * [Bounties overview](/contributors/bounties/overview) * [Bounty modes](/contributors/bounties/bounty-modes) * [Fees](/reference/fees) # Grant programs Source: https://docs.boundlessfi.xyz/organizers/run-a-grant-program Overview of grant programs and how to find them on Boundless. Grant programs on Boundless are funding initiatives with defined scope, eligibility, and rules. Each program may have its own focus (e.g., ecosystem, tooling, research) and [grant type](/contributors/grants/grant-types). ## What a program defines * **Focus area** Topics or goals the program funds. * **Eligibility** Who can apply (e.g., individuals, teams, regions). * **Grant type** Milestone-based, one-time, or other. * **Application and review** How to apply and how decisions are made. * **Milestone structure** If applicable, how milestones and payouts work. ## Finding programs * Browse the Grants section for open programs. * Check deadlines, requirements, and reward ranges before applying. ## Applying Follow the [application process](/contributors/grants/apply) for the program you choose. Accept the invitation, and the event's submissions appear in your judge dashboard once the submission window has closed. ## Scoring each submission For each submission assigned to you: 1. Open the submission and review the project, its materials, and any linked demo or repository. 2. Score it on every criterion in the [rubric](/organizers/how-judging-works). If an AI summary is available, use it to review faster, but the score is your call. 3. Save your scores. You can revise them until scoring closes. ## Deadlines Scoring runs until the event's judging deadline. Submit all your scores before it closes, once judging ends, totals are locked and winners are determined. Score consistently across submissions. Because weights are fixed by the rubric, using the same standard for every entry is what keeps the result fair. ## Next steps * [How judging works](/organizers/how-judging-works) * [Disputes and moderation](/help/disputes-and-moderation) # Converting USDC to local currency Source: https://docs.boundlessfi.xyz/reference/converting-usdc How to turn your USDC earnings into local currency. > **TL;DR:** Boundless pays you in USDC on Stellar. Converting it to your local currency happens in a separate app, not inside Boundless. ## How it works Boundless does not convert crypto to local currency. Cashing out is three steps: 1. **Verify your identity.** [Identity verification](/start-here/verify-your-identity) is required before you can withdraw. 2. **Withdraw your USDC** from your [Boundless wallet](/concepts/wallet-and-balance) to an address you control. 3. **Convert to local currency** in an app that accepts USDC on Stellar, then withdraw to your bank account or mobile money. You will verify your identity twice: once with Boundless so you can withdraw, and again with whichever app you use to convert. They are separate companies, so they each do their own checks. ## One option: JetPad You can use any app that accepts USDC on Stellar and works in your country. If you are not sure where to start, [JetPad](https://jetpad.finance/) is one worth looking at. It is a mobile app for iOS and Android, built on Stellar and backed by the Stellar Community Fund. You sign up with an email address, so there is no seed phrase to look after. It holds Stellar USDC, converts to local currency, and pays out to a bank account or mobile money across a growing list of African countries. It can also pay bills like airtime and electricity straight from your balance.
