# Payments and KYC

> Common questions about getting paid, identity verification, Credits, and cashing out.

  <Accordion title="What currency am I paid in?">
    All payouts settle in USDC on the Stellar network. Your balance is shown in USD. See [Tokens and wallets](/reference/tokens-and-wallets).

  <Accordion title="Why do I need to verify my identity?">
    Identity verification (KYC), powered by Didit, is required before you can withdraw funds. You can start it in **Settings → Verification**. See [Verify your identity](/start-here/verify-your-identity).

  <Accordion title="How long do payouts take?">
    Once an organizer releases funds, by selecting winners or approving a milestone, payouts usually settle within about a minute.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Why is my balance shown as pending?">
    Earnings held in escrow show as pending until the opportunity completes and funds are released. Your [wallet](/contributors/get-paid/wallet-and-withdrawals) shows what's pending, what's available, and the next expected release.

  <Accordion title="What are Credits and when do I need them?">
    Credits are used only for bounties, to apply and to submit. You get a monthly refill based on your tier and can earn more from a few one-time tasks. See [Earn and spend Credits](/contributors/get-paid/credits).

  <Accordion title="Can I convert USDC to my local currency?">
    Yes, through a cryptocurrency exchange that supports USDC on Stellar, Boundless doesn't convert to local currency itself. See [Converting USDC to local currency](/reference/converting-usdc).

  <Accordion title="Do I need my own crypto wallet?">
    No. Boundless manages a wallet for you, so there's no seed phrase to set up. If you prefer self-custody, you can use an external wallet such as Freighter. See [Tokens and wallets](/reference/tokens-and-wallets).
